Come Out and Celebrate: Montréal's LGBTA Parade and Community Dat Célébrations LGBTA Montréal Announces New and Exciting Details

Wednesday, June 27, 2007 — Célébrations LGBTA Montréal, is thrilled to announce many new additions to the Montreal Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & All Friends Community Day & Parade. These events will take place on July 28 and 29 2007 in the heart of Montréal’s Gay Village.

Célébrations LGBTA Montréal has already begun registering hundreds of local sports teams, cultural and religious groups as well as other gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender organizations for kiosks and inclusion in the parade. The parade will also feature both gay and gay-friendly businesses that join us in celebrating the significant contributions of LGBTA employees and clients. Furthermore, 2007 marks the return of many Montreal’s Gay Village bars for the first time in nearly a decade.

” The Parade and the Community Day celebrate how diverse and inclusive our community truly is, and how much life exists outside of the closet. ” explains Éric Pineault, President of Célébrations LGBTA Montréal. “The events will celebrate all of the great recent advancements that our community has fought to achieve, including gay marriage. But more importantly, our organization's mission is to continue to highlight how much more work is necessary to truly eradicate homophobia, both at home and abroad.”

THE LGBTA COMMUNITY DAY – Saturday, July 28, 2007
The LGBTA Community Day will take place on Saturday, July 28 2007, from 11:00 to 18:00. Kiosks will line Sainte-Catherine Street East, between Saint-Hubert and Papineau streets. This event allows members of both the LGBTA and mainstream communities to discover many exciting organizations and community groups run by and/or catering to the LGBTA community. This event has as a mandate to involve, educate and entertain.

THE LGBTA PARADE – Sunday, July 29, 2007
The 2007 Montréal LGBTA Parade is scheduled for Sunday July 29, 2007, beginning at 13:00. The parade will kick-off on the corner of De Lormier Street and René-Lévesque Boulevard East and travel west, through the Village, culminating on Saint-Hubert Street. Following this, crowds are invited to continue the celebrations on Sainte-Catherine Street East, between Saint-Hubert and Papineau streets, where local businesses and organizations are planning various activities and surprises.

Célébrations LGBTA Montréal is also thrilled to announce a series of important new additions including the appointment of Mr. Claude Vaillancourt as Artistic Director. In this role, Mr. Vaillancourt will assist and encourage the participating groups to design their floats reflect the theme of « The Power of the Four Elements ». Another exciting addition to these events will be the naming of The Célébrations LGBTA Montréal Grand Marshals. The names of these two members of the LGBTA community, one selected for his/her contribution to the visibility of the LGBTA movement and one for his/her contribution to our community, will to be announced in the coming weeks.

Furthermore, Célébrations LGBTA Montréal is launching the Célébrations LGBTA Awards for the most exciting, crowd-pleasing and unforgettable floats. The awards will include: Most Crowd-Pleasing Float, Best Expression of the 2007 Theme, Best Choreography by a group, Best Costume and Make-up by an individual or group, Community Group Float of the year and Corporate Float of the year, as well as special “Jury Prizes” to be awarded at the discretion of our panel of distinguished judges.
