PER7EPTION / THE EXPOSITION: HIV consciousness-raising campaign
Per7eption
Per7eption, this first-of–its-kind provocative AIDS campaign was created by Canadian HIV Positive artist Jean-Pierre Pérusse, multidisciplinary artist Kat Coric and photographer Bob Hendriks. Seven artists invite you to immerse yourself, as they did for this project, into the world of an HIV positive person through 7 original surrealist photo composites shot by Bob Hendriks and created by Jean-Pierre Pérusse. Visualize how an HIV positive person perceives society when afflicted by this disease.

This intimate, emotional and personal depiction addresses misinformation and misconceptions. It will not only speak to those touched by HIV, but to all those facing adversity: It is a truly universal theme.

This event allows members of both the LGBTA and mainstream communities to discover many exciting organizations, community groups, businesses and sports teams, run by and/or catering to the LGBTA community.

YVON GOULET AND KAT CORIC

Yvon Goulet

To underscore this year’s themes, “Stonewall :40 years!” and “¡Fiesta!“, the Café des Arts will receive and expose artists Mr. Yvon Goulet and Ms. Kat Coric, to highlight their social implication and how they portray the Montréal gay community through their paintings. You will have the opportunity to admire and purchase certain paintings exposed. You will also have the chance to see the artists in action during the “live painting” event at the Café des Arts this Saturday, August 15, between noon and 17:00. It’s a great time to meet, encourage and see these artists practising their métier.

BunburyPresentations will be in both English and French for a total of ten performances from August 10 to 15 at Théâtre Sainte-Catherine (264 rue Sainte-Catherine Est) as an associate event of the Montréal Pride Celebrations 09.

Celebrating his 15th year of artistic life this season, Davyn Ryall has been toying a long time with the idea of presenting Oscar Wilde’s masterpiece of a play. “The Importance of Being Earnest”. at the heart of the summer season. Fascinated by Oscar Wilde’s vivid spirit, Davyn Ryall has attempted to stay as close as possible to the four act original text with endless subtleties. The four-act version of this radically absurd play, which was arguably in some respects written well ahead of its time, is filled to the brim with summertime fun and now with the tasteful addition of some entertaining dance and lively music. -Not without a certain contrast, it proposes moreover a new sparkling translation of this comedy ever-so popular over 100 years after its creation, and adapted to the flavour of the day by locating the action in Montréal in the year 1929, while still keeping the spirit of its original era, the Victorian England of the 19th century.

This show features nine of Montréal’s own local bilingual professional talents: Aleksandra Lipskaia (Miss Prism), Simon Chaussé (Dr. Rev. Chausable), Jonathan Marquis (Lane, & Mr. Gribsby), Jessica Hill (Gwendolyn Fairfax), Chris Nachaj (Algernon Moncrieff), Elsa Perez (Lady Bracknell),  Marc-André Poulin (Jack Worthing), Kristina Sandev (Cecily Cardew) and Stéphane Turgeon (Merriman).

Directed by Davyn Ryall.
