Raising of the flag

Displaying our colours with the raising of the rainbow flag is always one of the strongly emotional moments of the Pride festival. A symbol of our global LGBTTIQA2S movement, it symbolizes the affirmation, the diversity and the pride of our communities.

Created in 1978 by American graphic designer Gilbert Baker (who died on March 31, 2017), the flag is made up of six horizontal bands of color with each their own meaning:

  • red : symbol of life
  • orange for healing
  • yellow for sunlight
  • green for nature
  • blue for harmony
  • purple/violet for spirit of community
