Conference discussion with Nate Phelps, Estranged Son of “God Hates Fags” Pastor Fred Phelps
Presented in association with the Centre for Inquiry Canada (CFI)
Newly turned atheist and estranged son of “God Hates Fags” pastor Fred Phelps will speak, within the framework of Montréal Pride, about growing up in the Westboro Baptist Church, the most controversial family in the US. Nate will outline and denounce his family’s anti-gay campaign and share his experiences growing up with the indoctrination and violence of his father. He will recount his journey since leaving home at 18 from Christian fundamentalism to finally letting go of God.
“The Westboro Baptist Church is highly homophobic and claims homosexuals, and those who ‘enable’ them, will burn in hell,” explained CFI National Executive Director Justin Trottier.
The Centre for Inquiry is the leading free thought organization in Canada promoting reason, science, secularism and freedom of inquiry.
