Poetry performances (in French) with the music of Zïlon
Poet Simon DuPlessis will host a group of performers in an eclectic and fun evening that aims to pull poetry off of dusty bookshelves and bring it to life. Performances will be presented in French.
“Le mental semble être expiré; il faut sortir l’Emmental Expiré.”
The evening’s tagline expresses the idea of going beyond the restrictions of the rational mind and dabbling in the absurd as a path to inspiration and creativity. The event will bring together the prolific Jean Paul Daoust, the energetic Marie Marine Lévesque, poets Réjean Roy and Robin Gravel, from publisher l’Étoile de Mer, trans poet Pascale Bérubé, the colourful Marc André Casavant, and the Colombian poet Sergio Esteban Velez, all hosted by Simon DuPlessis.
Poetry will be intertwined with performance dance by Danielle Hubbard and Louis Guillemette, professors from the National Circus School, presented to the visceral music of Zïlon. Added to the mix will be opera singing by Daniel Duhamel, who will be transformed into the grand diva Madame Mamelle especially for the occasion.
“Music gave birth to dance, which then gave birth to theater which, in turn, led to the birth of poetry. I am delighted to bring together all of these means of expression in one event to celebrate poetry, an art form that is less well known to many people,” says host Simon DuPlessis.
