Montréal Pride Launches Call for Proposals for the International Conference on Sexual Diversity and Gender Plurality in the Francophonie
Montréal, March 8, 2017 – Montréal Pride President, Éric Pineault, today launches a call for proposals for the international conference, Equality & Legality: Sexual Diversity and Gender Plurality in the Francophonie, which will take place on August 18 as part of Canada Pride Montréal 2017.
Earlier this week, Montréal Pride unveiled the six key themes prioritized by the conference’s scientific committee. “Today, we are launching the call for proposals inviting researchers, academics and activists to come to Montréal in August to share their knowledge, to discuss LGBTQ realities in the Francophonie with their peers, and to lay the groundwork for future collaborations,” said Mr. Pineault.
The call for proposals will last 8 weeks. Proposals must be submitted no later than April 28, 2018. The process for submitting a proposal can be found online and is open to anyone from the academic and research community who is interested in LGBTQ or human rights issues, and to any person, organisation or institution active in LGBTQ communities and allied networks at the local, national or international level.
The conference’s scientific committee will review the submitted proposals for selection. Authors chosen will be invited to the conference in Montréal to present their papers and share their findings with conference participants.
According to Mr. Pineault, the issue is important. “Montréal Pride organizes the most important LGBTQ pride celebrations in the entire French-speaking world and we want to mobilize LGBTQ academics and activists from around the world, to not only advance the knowledge, but also advance the rights of our community.” Even today in the Francophonie, too many countries severely repress individuals who express their difference through gender identity or sexual orientation.
The Equality and Legality conference is made possible thanks to the financial support of its presenting sponsor, the Government of Québec, and is organised in collaboration with the Canadian Foundation for Cross-Cultural Dialogue.
