Montréal Pride Hosts the InterPride 2013 AGM and World Conference this Week

Montréal, October 8, 2013 — From October 10 to 13, 2013, Montréal Pride will host Pride organizers and LGBT human rights leaders from around the world for the InterPride 2013 Annual General Meeting and World Conference, which will be held at the Delta Centre-Ville Hotel in downtown Montréal.

InterPride is the international association of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Pride organizers whose mission is to increase the capacity of their network around the world to raise awareness of cultural, social and legal inequality, and to effect positive change through education, collaboration, advocacy and outreach.

An Annual Gathering of LGBT Leaders from Around the World

Each year, InterPride members meet at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of its members. The 2013 InterPride AGM and world conference in Montréal will offer stimulating workshops on producing LGBT Pride events and on issues pertinent to the community. Along with meetings of the membership, board and committees, attendees will have the opportunity network and exchange ideas on an international scale, and learn about best practices and innovative approaches from their peers. Member organizations will vote on the policies and procedures of the organization and the annual international LGBTI Pride Theme.

Over 200 delegates from 17 countries are expected with delegations from across the United States and Canada. There will also be representatives from Berlin (Germany), Brussels, (Belgium), Jinja (Uganda), London (UK), Maceió (Brazil), Madalena (Portugal), Madrid (Spain), Melbourne (Australia), Montpellier (France), Reykjavík (Iceland), Rome (Italy), Riga (Latvia) and Tbilisi (Georgia, former Soviet Republic).

Among the international delegates will be Vincent Autin and his partner, Bruno Boileau, who became the first same-sex couple to marry in France in May of this year, and Andrew Waiswa, the founder and executive director of the Gender Equality and Health Organization (GEHO) in Uganda.

“We are honoured to host this prestigious gathering, and to welcome delegates from around the world to Montréal,” said Éric Pineault, president of Montréal Pride. “For the first time at an InterPride conference, there will a special Youth Day on Friday, October 11, when members of local LGBT youth groups will be invited to attend sessions and chat with Pride organizers. This will be a great opportunity for different generation of LGBT activists to share their visions of future of the LGBT Pride movement.”

The conference begins on Thursday, October 10, and wraps up at noon on Sunday, October 13. For more information, visit www.interpride2013.org.
